Homestead Tax Credit
For those of you that own and live in property that is being assessed this year, you must now apply for the Homestead Tax Credit. It was previously automatic, but the legislature changed the law last year. It is another way to get increased taxes from property that you own but don’t live in. An application should be included with your tax assessment. All properties are not being assessed at the same time. If you need to check with your local tax office, see http://www.dat.state.md.us/sdatweb/county.html
As you receive your new property tax assessment, you should be aware of the Homestead Tax Credit which is designed to help homeowners deal with large assessment increases on their principal residence. You must apply for it.
